A Note About Lent

Category: Communion of Saints — Micah @ 12:00 am

If you’re a regular listener to this podcast, you’ll probably realize that tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, and that therefore, we will be in the season of Lent. In that penitential season, celebrations of the feast days are often “toned-down” or eliminated all together. In fact, Lesser Feasts and Fasts notes:

In keeping with ancient tradition, the observance of Lenten weekdays ordinarily takes precedence over Lesser Feasts occuring during this season. It is appropriate, however, to name the saint whose day it is in the Prayers of the People, and, if desired, to use the Collect of the saint to conclude the Prayers.

And, “ordinarily” they are right. Nevertheless, Communion of Saints will continue to bring you short meditations on the Lesser Feasts during Lent, just as during the other seasons of the Church year. The Internet has an unusual relationship to time, anyway, and we’re already observing Lesser Feasts on Sundays (which is also not “ordinarily” done). I hope that you will continue to come to St. Jerome’s Chapel during Lent. Indeed, listening to the podcasts as they appear might be a good Lenten discipline for you or your friends.

I invite you to an observence of a Holy Lent full of the wonderful examples of women and men of faith who have inspired us in times past, and continue to do so today. May God be with you.
